Has communications lost its place at the top table?

Just three years ago, chief communications officers were reporting they were growing their influence in the C-suite.

But now, new research finds just 17% of CEOs feel their communications and public affairs functions are "very equipped" to keep pace with rapid change.

One reason things have gone wrong for comms is that too many communications efforts have reflected the views and motivations of other professionals, not core business.

Communications lost sight of the bottom line during the good times and rapid churn in social values. As economic reality hits home, this work is being judged superfluous.

The best communications have always been linked with business goals, and it's time for PR to reset back to that basic premise.
