Don’t Panic

Intense international criticism of the Qatari hosts ahead of the start of the Football World Cup drove the FIFA President to rant about feeling gay, and the Qataris to hassle journos and renege on selling beer at stadiums.

We said the anti-Qatari fuss would stop once play started, as it had when other ‘problematic’ regimes hosted sports events.

That’s what happened. The world was mesmerised by favourite teams upset, on-field heroics, and a tremendous final.

FIFA and Qatar needed to grit their teeth and see the early fuss out (and drop the idea of the bisht). To guide your actions, you must see further ahead than the trouble you are in.
